The Lexington Church of Christ began on January 19, 1978 by meeting in members' homes. The Church met at several locations until land was purchased on Barr Road in Lexington South Carolina on which to erect a building. In 2001, we sold our land and building on Barr Road to a Christian educational establishment and the congregation relocated to 101 Ball Park Road where construction on a new building was begun. That construction was completed in the Spring of 2003.

The Churches of Christ are nondenominational, autonomous congregations that have no outside headquarters. Each congregation is responsible for its own leadership, theology, and finances. We believe this gives us a great deal of freedom in doing what we believe to be the will of God. While we do have traditions that our ancestors handed down to us, we are not bound by any traditions that we think are unbiblical.

The Lexington Church of Christ is a group of people who are trying to be, simply, Christians. Our roots are in the Campbell/Stone Restoration Movement but our responsibility is to God and his will in regards to all areas of the church.

We believe that we are saved by the grace of God through faith. We believe the gift of salvation is undeserved and we do not earn it in any way. Salvation is offered to all people but not all people accept it.

We believe that a person must understand that they are lost and estranged from God. They must then believe that God is their only source for salvation. As they turn to God for salvation, they must believe that Jesus Christ, God's son, came to this earth, died, and was raised by God.

A commitment to turn away from a sinful lifestyle is required from God. We believe God finalizes the salvation process when we confess our belief in Jesus Christ and accept him as our Lord in Baptism. It is at this point that God washes away our sins and we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. After baptism, God does not owe us a thing. Baptism is simply an act of obedience to God's will.

We are often asked whether we think anyone can get to heaven without being baptized. The answer is that God can save anyone he wishes. The better question is whether or not God has asked us to be baptized for the remission of our sins. The answer to that question is 'Yes' and so we do baptize. However, we believe that each person must make their own decision in regards to salvation. A person must be old enough to understand the implications of their sins and be willing to accept the responsibility for their own spiritual well being when they accept Jesus as their Lord. Because of this, we do not baptize babies.
